Facebook for Windows 10 is an official version of this classic app that works with computers running a Windows 10 operating system. Though it lacks any new features, it provides convenient access to all the best features of the social networking site.

Though it has some competitors, Facebook is still the top social networking site in the world. It started out as a smaller site that let users attending a university to rank their classmates and connect with each other. When it first went live to the public, it limited access to only those with a college or university email address. Now anyone can join Facebook, and it helps them stay in touch with loved ones and friends from all around the world.

Facebook for Windows 10 is essentially an optimized version of the app for those running this operating system. It works with all computers and devices that run either an updated version of Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. Though it may look similar to past editions of the app, it gives you easy access to all the features of Facebook.

When you first download and open the app, you must log in with your current account details. You also have the option of creating a brand-new account. If you try to create a new account with the same email address you used in the past, though, Facebook will ask that you either select a new address or sign in with your existing password.

The app shows your news feed in the center of the page. Your news feed will contain posts, photos and videos shared by those on your contacts list. Facebook has a tendency to show more popular posts on your feed though. This may leave you with posts appearing at the top of the list from several days ago, which can make it harder to find more recent posts. You can use your mouse, keyboard or finger to scroll down your news feed.

The right side of the screen functions as your status update bar. Older versions place this feature at the top of the page. You can type right inside that box and click the post button to post your update. This feature also comes with buttons that let you tag someone in your post, select a location and add an attachment like a video or photo. There is even an option for changing who can see your post. You can allow everyone or limit viewing to only certain friends or select groups.

On the left side of the screen are buttons that help you access different Facebook features. Click the “Messages” feature to load all the messages that you received in the past and to send new messages. The “Nearby” button loads a list of restaurants and other attractions that are near your current location. Facebook uses the GPS on your device to find where you are in the world.

Facebook for Windows 10 comes with an “Events” button too. Clicking this button will bring up a list of upcoming events, including parties your friends invited you to and events relating to some of the pages you follow on the site. The “Events” button will also show you events taking place near your location and events that your friends will attend or host.

You can also view all the photos that you uploaded to the site over the years via the “Photos” button on the left side of the screen. Facebook lets you view only those you used as profile photos, pictures that others tagged you in and images that you uploaded via mobile devices. You also get full access to all the albums that you created.

This is the first version of Facebook that can run in the background as you use other apps too. You no longer need to choose between playing a game or doing schoolwork and checking Facebook. This feature keeps you updated as you do other things online or on your device. Pop up notifications will alert you when a user sends you a message or posts on one of your updates. Those notifications also alert you to new posts made by those you follow and when someone comments on a post that you left a comment on, too.

A button located right on the taskbar gives you complete access to all your privacy and account settings also. Privacy settings can help you keep your page private. You can limit what others see of your page and change which features of your page are public. Those looking for you online can only see limited information without being your friend first. This is great for those searching for a new job or those in the public eye. This app comes with limited options as to how you can change those settings though and some may wish that the app better integrated those options.

The app does come with an integrated messaging system that lets you send instant messages with online and offline users. This system shows you who is currently offline and lets you see when a user read a message you sent. Though Facebook for Windows 10 is very similar to other versions and comes with the same features, it acts as a more efficient way to post updates, share photos and chat with friends over any modern device.
